Short biography:

Milica Stojadinović Srpkinja was born in Bukovac in 1828 and was one of the most famous personalities among Serbian people at that time. In 1847, at the age of 13, this gifted child of the village priest in Vrdnik published her first poem. During 1848, her name often appeared in Serbian newspapers and magazines. Towards the end of her life, she left Vrdnik and moved to Belgrade, where she died in 1878, completely forgotten and in extreme misery. In 1905, her bones were transferred from the Tašmajdan Cemetery in Belgrade to Požarevac, where her brother lived. They were placed in a common grave.

Interesting facts (Storytelling):

Vuk Stefanović Karadžić loved her as his own child and called her “my daughter from Fruška”. Njegoš too talked about that beautiful young girl – “I am a poet, she is a poet, if I were not a monk, she would be the princess of Montenegro!“ Prince Mihailo was more than her protector – he was a loyal friend. When she came to Belgrade, Belgrade writers welcomed her as no other Serbian writer before.
